Block 09-1 (Bach Ho/Rong)

The Bach Ho and Rong fields are located in the Cuu Long Basin and are operated by the Vietnamese/Russian joint venture, Vietsovpetro. Bach Ho is Vietnam's largest single producing field and has been in production since 1986. Peak oil production of 267,370 b/d was reached in 2001, but the field has been in steady decline since. The completion of a 107 kilometre, 16-inch pipeline in 1995 allowed associated gas, which had previously been flared, to be brought ashore by PetroVietnam. Gas production increased significantly in 1998 and 1999 with the completion of the initial development phase of the onshore Dinh Co gas processing plant, and the installation of a gas compression platform. This was further increased from late-2010 as the Rong and Doi Moi field gas recovery project to install a new compression unit was completed. Gas is supplied to power generation plants at Ba Ria and Phu My. The Rong field started production in December 1994, but has experienced production problems.
