The Greenstream pipeline transports gas across the Mediterranean Sea from Mellitah, Libya to Gela in Sicily, Italy. Gas is supplied from two Eni and National Oil Corporation (NOC) fields: the offshore Bahr Es Salam and the onshore Wafa fields. It is operated by the Greenstream BV, a joint company of Eni and NOC. Upgrades to the pipeline capacity began in 2009 to increase throughput volumes from 8 bcm/year (774 mmcfd) to 11 bcm/year (1,064 mmcfd). By the end of 2010, the additional 3 bcm/year of throughput was fully commissioned. Half of the gas is sold to Edison (subsidiary of EDF), and the remainder is sold equally between Engie and Energia Gas. Flow levels fell from around from around 520 mmcfd in 2019 to just over 230 mmcfd in 2023. We expect throughput to increase in the late-2020s as Eni and NOC's NC41-A and -E fields are brought onstream.
