The offshore Dostlug oil and gas field is located in the south Caspian Sea and is proposed for a cross-border development by Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. It was previously the subject of a maritime border dispute between the two countries. In 2021, they signed an MoU for joint appraisal and development.
